Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP)
governance · technology
A published proposal or information document for Bitcoin protocols, applications, or community processes.
Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs) document protocol features, cross-project application standards, processes, implementation guidance, best practices, incidents, or other information relevant to Bitcoin. Publication and a BIP number mean the document met repository criteria; they do not by themselves imply technical approval, community consensus, activation, or adoption.
Authors gather feedback and maintain the document; editors assign numbers and check publication requirements. Acceptance and implementation remain decisions for users and projects. The current repository process is described in BIP 3.
